Remove AIM, MSN and Yahoo messengers off the lists of contact field in PHPBB3, add Discord instead (2024)

Hello there. AIM, MSN and Yahoo messengers are all dead social media services and we cannot remove them in the Profile options, unlike the form fields we can add by ourselves. I adore PHPBB3 for its stability and in how great detail it can be modified for our needs, but having these messengers around in the profile editing field makes the format feel more dated than it truly is.

However, Discord is very much alive and thus much more up to date. I use it regularly, so do many of my friends. It also kind of matches with the idea of forums, being designed as a comfortable environment for groups.

So could those three be removed and that one be added instead?

Hello you can stop your members adding them.
ACP >> Users & Groups >> Users >> Profiles >>Contact fields >> Click the yellow cog  >>

Your settings are as follows

This will stop your members even seeing them and stop them adding the data needed So really this is already possible

Why don't just remove the old ones and add something new like this?

I meant my own forums, though... I didn't see an option for Discord there but I created my own form field for it anyway.

Administration Panel > Modules > Forum widgets management > Search for the widget called Discord Server > and you can complete the steps, like in this picture mentioned below

Thank you, the widgets are a cool feature for sure and I'll consider using them but I meant this part of the user profile edits in the beginning:

I can hide those from the other users of course but no one can do anything with them because they don't work at all. So what can the admins do with them, besides admiring them for nostalgic reasons? We cannot remove them entirely either.
